| Admission Interview for S1 Discretionary Places 2012-2013 |

The admission interview will be conducted in the morning of 24th March, 2012 (Saturday). Applicants selected for the interview will receive an invitation letter detailing the date, reporting time and documents to bring along. Ineligible candidates will also receive a notification letter from the school.

家長教師會將於新春期間與校方合作舉辦「新春行大運」步行籌款活動，讓家長、子女及教師藉此機會聚首一堂，共襄善舉。籌得之部分善款將捐助認可慈善團體，以幫助社會上有需要的人士；其餘則撥歸本校優化教育基金，作為改善教學設施或學校環境之用。

為增進領袖生之間的感情和團隊精神，領袖生隊於12月21日在本校操場舉行燒烤同樂日。領袖生及訓輔導組老師均踴躍參與；是次聯誼活動氣氛熱鬧融洽，大師生間彼此增進了不少的友誼。

| Visit to the Housing for the Elderly
|
|
|
On December 21, 2011, our Love Your Neighbour Club members organized a Christmas party for the elderly living in the Helping Hand Po Lam Jockey Club Housing for the Elderly. Everyone had fun and shared joy together through activities such as playing games, singing Christmas Carols, performances by students, lucky draw, and chatting with the elderly. As the Swedish proverb goes, “Shared joy is a double joy.” Our students had experienced the blessings in the golden rule “to give is more blessed than to receive” and found truth that “where love is shared, joy overflows.” After the visit, our 26 members went back to school to do debriefing and reviewing on the event. Going through the process of planning, implementing, evaluating and sharing, our students gained invaluable experience in the volunteering service which enabled them to develop their potential and to contribute to society.

訓輔導組在12月17日於香港青年協會西貢戶外訓練營舉行領袖生訓練日營。領袖生透過積極參與多元化的歷奇活動和竹筏製作，學習解決困難的方法，提升自信心，增強彼此的認識和溝通，以加強團隊守望相助精神。領袖生們藉此發揮領導潛能，懂得欣賞自己及別人優勝之處，從而發展出正面及積極的自我價值觀。

The campus video broadcasting team has participated in the competition of advertisement making in The 46th HKBPE. Luckily, we have been ranked among the top 10 entries in the Senior Secondary School Section. There is an online voting for the most popular film. | Project Learning Work Meeting (15th December, 2011) |
The 2nd ‘Project Learning Work Meeting’ will take place tomorrow afternoon. (15-12-2011 Day B). There will be a special time table in the morning with all lessons shortened to 30-minute sessions. Lunch break starts at 12:30 pm. After lunch, S1 to S3 students will take part in project learning activities which end at 3:00 pm, while S4 to S6 students will have their Liberal Studies workshop or English School-based Assessment. S7 students can leave at 12:30 pm unless otherwise instructed by teachers.

Our Cross Country School Team’s Girls’ B Grade Overall came Third and Girls Overall came Fourth in the Inter-school Cross Country Championships. In addition, they have won 3 medals in this competition. Congratulations!

本校同學參加由臺灣國立國父紀念館、國際佛光會中華總會、財團法人佛光山文教基金會及佛光綠美術館總部主辦的「人人行三好 好心會放光」第八屆國際佛光緣小藝術家獎徵畫比賽，4A班陳思欣同學及4B班石衍蓉同學榮獲國際─國中組佳作並會得到獎金台幣壹仟圓正、獎狀及畫冊乙本，而4B班譚嘉怡同學亦入選比賽並得頒贈獎狀及紀念畫冊。在此恭賀三位同學百尺竿頭、更進一步。

| ‘Mentorship Program’ Kick-off Ceremony |

|
The ‘Mentorship Program’ organized by the Alumni Association has received an overwhelming response from our students this year. There is a record high number of mentees and mentors joining the program – a total of 112 mentees and 47 mentors! A kick-off ceremony was held at school on November 12, followed by a barbeque party where mentors and mentees got acquainted with each other. More than 170 people took part in the gathering. Everybody had fun!

香港理工大學於十一月四日安排了諾貝爾經濟學獎得主約翰•納殊 (Professor John F. Nash, Jr.) 與本地中學生作公開對話，分享他的豐富知識和人生經驗。
約翰•納殊教授憑藉過去二十多年在經濟學理論發展上的深遠影響，加上其對博奕論的貢獻，在一九九四年獲頒諾貝爾經濟學獎。
本校十位選修經濟科及數學延伸課程的中四級同學把握了這次千載難逢的機會與這位著名學者見面。是次公開對話反應十分熱烈，在場同學踴躍地向教授提出了多條有趣的問題，並從教授的回答中得到了重要的啟發。

| HKU Chemistry Week – Magic Show |

On October 7, a group of S4 students from the Chemistry class and Combined Science class took part in an event organized by the Chemistry Department of University of Hong Kong. It was a magic show performed by Professor F Ekkehardt Hahn from Germany. He is a well-known chemist who has a reputation of being the David Copperfield of Chemistry magic! During the lively presentation, Professor Hahn talked about how the mass media misunderstood Chemistry and even made Chemistry look harmful to the public. So he wanted to clarify those misconceptions and arouse people’s interest in Chemistry. The show consisted of exciting performances involving colours, flames and fumes, all of which were derived from fundamental concepts of Chemistry. Everyone enjoyed the show very much! We hope to see more students participate in these after-school learning activities in future, to enrich their knowledge and widen their horizon.

本校通識科特別邀請《香港經濟日報》高級項目經理，《通SIX》主編唐惠苓小姐於九月二十六日為中五同學進行『獨立專題探究(IES)訪談技巧』工作坊。透過是次工作坊，唐小姐與同學分享訪談前的準備工夫、擬題的種種考慮、訪談時打開話題的技巧、訪談後整理資料的方法，使同學對新高中通識科的獨立專題探究有更深刻的了解。

| Award for Red Cross Member |

One of our school’s Red Cross members –WONG Hau-ying - completed on 9 July, 2011 the “Advanced Medal of the Progressive Activities Scheme”, and was awarded an Honours Medal by the Hong Kong Red Cross – the highest honour awarded for fulfilling the Programme requirements. Those who have completed all stages of the Programme are sure to have had a modicum of success in participating in various activities, and must have definitely carried out the duties of a Red Cross member, thus making contributions to the community, and achieving a measure of growth in their personality and leadership. Congratulations to this student, and we hope that she will continue to serve others in need, and that our students will take her as a role model and contribute to society.

Our students have achieved admirable results in the AL exam this year. The pass percentages of Use of English, Chinese Language and Culture, Economics, Geography, History, Principles of Accounts, Business Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Pure Mathematics are higher than the average pass rates of day-school candidates in Hong Kong.
