The Mentorship Program organized by the Alumni Association took on a new format this year, where our students were given the opportunity to experience and explore university life in a half-day workshop. Many alumni volunteered to serve as mentors and shared their experience with their mentees, encouraging them to set goals and to plan for their future. Through various activities that resembled those at university, like taking on a committee member’s role, striving for a high GPA, moving into a dormitory, working on the FYP, preparing for the career path etc., our students were able to appreciate more about what university life is about. Both the mentors and mentees enjoyed the workshop thoroughly. After the event, a close bond was formed instantly between the mentors and mentees. We are confident that the mentor and mentee relationship will go on and our mentors will continue to support their mentees in the years to come.

SA Election 16-17

The elections for the new Student Association of this academic year was successfully held in the school hall on 5th October. This year, there were three cabinets, Dare, Flyers and Obbligati. From September to October 2016, the three cabinets have spared no effort to launch their promotion campaigns including posting their attractive promotional materials and banners, shouting out the promotion slogans and showing their promotion videos in morning assemblies. The school was enveloped with a strong election atmosphere.

During the pre-election forum, the three cabinets were well-prepared and responded with skills and finesse to the challenging questions raised by their opponents and audience.

In the election, each student was given a vote allowing them to select the cabinet they supported. This fully exhibited the democratic system in our school. Eventually, Obbligati won the election with 401 votes, taking on the responsibility of serving our students in the new academic year.

S.3 Advertising Show

The S.3 Advertising Show was held on 29 April, 2016. With the view of being relevant to the major concern of the school this year, each S.3 class had to promote a caring campaign at school for students to show love and care to their teachers and schoolmates. The commercial was to last no longer than 10 minutes. Their productions had to be original. The students designed their own ‘caring campaign’, wrote scripts on their own and prepared props, costumes and background music for their promotion. They also made use of PowerPoint slides to create a backdrop to enhance the effectiveness of their performances. They learned how to promote the activity, plan a run-down of the program, coordinate rehearsals and organize the performance. For students involved in the promotion of the show and serving as the MCs of the event, their confidence in using English, especially speaking in public, has improved.
