Chinese Cultural Week Lion Dance Performance and Talk

Date: 23/02/2024

According to the book "南海醒獅," the "Nan Lion" is derived from the Northern Lion. Lion dance is considered an auspicious mythical creature that wards off evil and brings good fortune. Therefore, on every festival or significant event, lion dance performances are held to add to the celebration.

Coinciding with the recent Chinese Lunar New Year, our school organized a lion dance performance to bring a joyful and festive atmosphere to the campus and promote Chinese lion dance culture. The event was divided into three parts: first, the performers explained the art of Chinese lion dance; then came the lion dance performance, featuring firecrackers and the waving of a giant ornamental scroll “揮春”, which heightened the excitement of the whole audience. The final part was a hands-on experience where a group of students joined the performers on stage and experienced lion dancing.
